One Profession, Properly
Most career events show a student twenty professions for ten minutes each. The Nursing Academy does the opposite: one profession, several consecutive days, inside a working hospital.
It is held annually in July at WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center, and it is built for students who are already leaning toward nursing and want to know what the job is really like before they commit years to it.
The Nursing Academies have been held at WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center and were funded by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission.
What Participants Do
Hands-on training
Vital signs, infection control, and First Aid and CPR — taught practically, with students doing rather than watching.
One-to-one mentoring
Time with health care professionals individually, which is where the questions students are too shy to ask in a group get asked.

Presentations from local colleges and universities on nursing education pathways, plus career planning and counseling sessions.
