5AHECs in West Virginia
Northern WV AHEC was established in 2004, with its office at Glenville State University. The Northern WV AHEC is dedicated to workforce development for healthcare professionals in underserved communities.
West Virginia has five AHECs between them covering 50 of the state’s 55 counties. Ours is responsible for 23 of them, running from the Northern Panhandle down through the west-central counties — a region where the nearest specialist can be an hour’s drive and where recruiting a clinician often means growing one locally.
That shapes what we build. Programs start in high school classrooms, continue through clinical training placements in small communities, and carry on as continuing education for the professionals already doing the work.
Northern WV AHEC is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, governed by the volunteer board of directors listed below.
Executive Director
Amanda holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) from West Virginia Wesleyan College and a Master of Public Health from West Virginia University, and is a Certified Health Education Specialist. She has led Northern WV AHEC since 2018. Before returning to West Virginia she worked at the Arizona Department of Health Services as an epidemiologist and office chief. Outside work she reads, hikes, bikes, quilts, and spends time with her family and dogs.
Mental Health First Aid Instructor
Donna is a West Virginia native who began working with Northern WV AHEC in 2024 as a Healthy Minds Alliance AmeriCorps member. After completing two AmeriCorps service terms, she joined the staff full-time to continue providing Mental Health First Aid training. Donna is certified to teach Adult, Youth, and Teen Mental Health First Aid. Outside of her work with AHEC, Donna leads her father’s church, co-founded the nonprofit Always Blessed Connections in 2020, and has authored two books. She enjoys watercolor painting, camping, cooking, and spending time with her pets.
Our 14-member board for 2025–2026 draws on the hospitals, health systems and universities across the region.
