Accessibility Statement
Everyone in our 23 counties should be able to use this site, whatever they use to reach it.
Our Commitment
This website is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 at Level AA. As a federally funded program we treat accessible digital content as a requirement under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, not as an optional extra.
We do not use a third-party accessibility overlay. Overlays sit on top of a site and try to patch it from the outside; we would rather the underlying pages be correct.
What We Have Done
- Semantic HTML landmarks, one main heading per page, and headings in order
- A skip link to main content, and a visible focus indicator on every interactive element
- Full keyboard operation, including the navigation menu, with no keyboard traps
- Text and interface colors tested against WCAG contrast thresholds
- Text alternatives for photographs and for the service-area map
- Layouts designed to reflow at 200% zoom and on small screens; we continue to test and correct isolated overflow problems
- No background video or autoplaying moving content
- Forms with persistent labels, clear required-field marking and an error summary
Accessible Reports and Historical Materials
Public reports, program guides, and historical Rural Immersion schedules are offered as complete accessible web pages. They use semantic headings, real lists, captioned data tables, descriptive link text, and text descriptions for meaningful visual content.
Original print-layout PDFs are retained beside their accessible web editions for visual reference and printing. The accessible web edition is presented first and contains the document’s meaningful information in a format designed for keyboard use, screen readers, magnification, reflow, and translation.
Ongoing Quality Control
New or materially changed pages are checked for keyboard access, focus visibility, semantic structure, alternative text, color contrast, form labels and errors, responsive reflow, text spacing, link purpose, and compatibility with assistive technology before publication.
External websites reached through outbound links are maintained by their respective owners and are outside Northern WV AHEC’s control.
