Mental Health First Aid

An evidence-based course in noticing a mental health or substance use crisis, and acting until professional help arrives.

First Aid, For The Part Nobody Can See

Most people know what to do if someone collapses in front of them. Far fewer know what to do when someone is in the middle of a panic attack, a depressive episode, or a substance use crisis. Mental Health First Aid closes that gap.

The course teaches a practical action plan: how to recognize the warning signs, how to open a conversation without making things worse, how to listen without judgment, and how to connect someone to professional help and self-help resources.

Mental Health First Aid is a program of the National Council for Mental Wellbeing. Northern WV AHEC delivers this training through the Healthy Minds Alliance. Donna Rollyson is certified to teach all three curricula.
