Program Overview

This historical schedule records Northern West Virginia AHEC’s online Rural Opioid Misuse immersion and its optional follow-up activity.

Day one and day two were delivered through one shared online meeting. The matching PDF preserves the original print presentation. Online Preparation Activities

Participants were asked to complete each of the following:

  1. Read American Pain: How a Young Felon and His Ring of Doctors Unleashed America’s Deadliest Drug Epidemic, by John Temple.
  2. Review the SOPHE POPPED curriculum presentation.
  3. Review West Virginia opioid information from the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
  4. Complete the SPENT online exercise.
  5. Review information about Opportunity House.

Articles

Participants were asked to review at least one article:

  • Hampton, C.; Buckley, J.; Auld, M. E.; and Drewiske, K. (2019), A Nation in Crisis: A Health Education Approach to Preventing Opioid Addiction.
  • Dowell, D.; Haegerich, T. M.; and Chou, R. (2016), CDC Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain – United States, 2016.
  • Life Reclamation, a WVU Magazine article about deep-brain stimulation to treat addiction.

Videos and Documentaries
